STUDIO CHOMSKY
Pacific Northwest, USA
I work with charcoals and water-based media both in my studio and en plein air. Much of my art explores the fragility of emotional memory; personal loss and the hidden dialogue of individuals standing apart from their society. I strive to create narrative with dynamic mark-making; energetic brushwork and a Modernist aesthetic influenced by German Expressionist film; Cubism and the Russian Lubok. Artists I admire include Otto Dix, Käthe Kollwitz, Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Robert Falk, Jacob Lawrence, Philip Guston, Francis Bacon, Jonas Burgert and Nikolai Blokhin.
In my free time I enjoy playing chess; reading scientific journals; listening to classic jazz and sipping Assam from a properly warmed pot.
